Tyler Hobbs Studio: 2025 Year in Review

From Art Basel's main fair to exhibitions across three continents, we're grateful to share these moments with you.

From Noise: A Milestone at Art Basel Miami Beach

From Noise & Translated Gestures on display at Art Basel Miami

December 3-7, 2025

From Noise and Translated Gestures debuted at Art Basel Miami Beach's Zero 10 initiative this December, marking a significant moment for digital art at the world's premier contemporary art fair. The reception was remarkable: all 12 iterations of From Noise found homes with collectors, with 7 of those acquisitions coming from collectors new to the NFT space.

In From Noise, the spontaneous gestures of painters, along with the density and chaos of urban graffiti and sticker clusters, are translated into algorithmic structures. This process raises questions about the nature of spontaneity itself: whether it depends on bodily action or can emerge from the controlled introduction of randomness, and whether carefully crafted chaotic moments can carry the same meaning as those made by hand.

The series comprised 12 algorithmic works plus an artist's proof, presented as prints on wood panel with gloss varnish (48 × 60 inches) in partnership with SOLOS Gallery.

Translated Gestures: A Contemplative Counterpoint

Translated Gestures offered contrast to the density of From Noise. The series featured six monochrome silkscreen prints on Stonehenge paper, housed in a clothbound folio as an edition of 30 + AP. Each print isolated a single gesture from the larger From Noise compositions, extracting one moment from those ~4,000 marks and giving it space to breathe.

"These screen prints were designed with space and slowness in mind. To me, they work similarly to a good zen rock garden, where the eye can smoothly flow through space before settling into the quiet contemplation of a curious stone, rich with detail."

Day Gardens: Coding and Cultivation

Day Gardens physicals on display at “The Digital Art Mile”

Released June 16, 2025
Presented during Art Basel at The Digital Art Mile in partnership with laCollection, Day Gardens explored minimalist geometric abstraction through soft palettes: warm creams, muted pinks, and subtle interplay of line and plane. Drawing inspiration from his physical garden, Tyler discovered parallels between coding and cultivation. Both practices involve setting parameters, nurturing growth, and embracing controlled unpredictability.

From thousands of algorithmic outputs, Tyler selected 50 works plus an artist's proof. Half remained digital-only, while the other half included physical counterparts: textured ink prints on hand-stained wood panels (24 × 30 × 2 inches).

LACMA Digital Art Conversations

Miami Beach | December 2025

During Art Basel Miami Beach, Tyler participated in LACMA's second annual Digital Art Conversations, organized by LACMA's Digital Leaders. The gathering brought together artists, curators, institutional leaders, and collectors for an afternoon of dialogue around the past, present, and future of digital art. Tyler discussed how he translates the spontaneity of gestural painting into algorithmic form.

Art Blocks Marfa Weekend

Texas | October 17, 2025

Tyler participated in the Artist Fair in Marfa, Texas, where he demonstrated custom software and techniques for integrating drawing by hand into a generative process. The weekend brought together the Art Blocks community for connection, conversation and celebration of AB500's culmination.

QQL Third Anniversary

The QQL community celebrated three years of algorithmic exploration and engaging conversations. Thanks to outstanding efforts by community members, the QQL Docs Initiative now serves as both an introduction for newcomers and a deeper exploration of the algorithm's nuances.
